To produce
a good piece of media, you must acknowledge who your target audience are, this
helps you create a music video which will appeal to those particular people.
The XX are considered to be an indie rock band, they are known to produce music
which is relatable and addresses stereotypical teenage problems such as
relationships and love issues. The genre ‘Indie’ is a great representation of
young bands breaking into the music industry; commonly these bands consist of a
male group, however that is not to say that there are no successful women
dominated groups.
After
researching many indie rock videos, I have discovered that the music promos
mostly consist of performance or narrative, therefore I am going to solely base
my project as a narrative video. The age range of my target audience is roughly
16-24 years old, I believe that Indie music, especially The XX, can be
relatable to this particular age group as the music touches upon common
feelings you will inevitably experience at some point.
The xx’s
music has been well received by the media, they are regularly being praised in
numerous blog posts and articles is some of the best magazines and newspapers.
For example, a feature article which appeared on the NME website which was
titled “‘The xx’ Turns Five: Why It's The Greatest Album Of Our Times” Statistics
show that NME and The XX share the same target audience.
Furthermore,
on thexx.com the audience are offered many different options, you can read
their latest news, browse their lyrics or even watch their videos. There are
numerous links to their different social media accounts, however, one of the
links which stuck out for me was their ‘blog’. The blog consists of other indie music which the band are fond of at the moment, they also use the blog to share cool photos and videos with their fans, this makes the connection between the band and audience more personal. Along with all the social media
platform links, their website advertises how internet based their target
audience is as 16-24 year olds were born into the age of the internet and don’t
know any different. The xx have used the internet as a way to publicise their music,
their new album ‘Coexist’ was sent into an intimate fan base who made it trend on
social media; they cleverly used the internet to connect to their fans.
