Synesthesia

syn·es·the·sia

Synaesthesia is the process of picturing sounds in the minds eye, or when hearing something, you automatically create an image of the sound in your head. For example, when hearing the sound of a crow, most people would start to think of graveyards, or dark and dingy places. Or maybe when you hear a love song you would automatically think of hearts and relationships ect. Andrew Goodwin stated, in his book 'Dancing in the distraction factory' (1992) 'Music video is a film that responds to the pleasures of music, and in which that music is made visual, either in new ways or in the ways that accentuate existing visual associations.' Meaning that the process of synaesthesia is often used when coming up with ideas for music videos.
